OPEN CALL Individual work in the Textile Centre Haslach in cooperation with ETN
The Textile Centre Haslach, in cooperation with the European Textile Network ETN, is announcing an artist-in-residence program for 1 person each in the following three areas from February 18th to 29th, 2024:
◾ Tufting
◾ Dobby weaving (on handlooms)
◾ Jacquard weaving (TC1 and mechanical, electronically controlled loom)
The program aims to make the infrastructure of the Textile Centre Haslach available to people who have the basic technical knowledge to be able to advance their own project as independently as possible and who want to get involved intensively with their work for 2 weeks. The relative seclusion of Haslach, the beauty of the surrounding nature and walks in the forest offer ideal conditions for this concentration, while at the same time the technical conditions in the Textile Centre Haslach open up many options.
In the first 2 days of the stay, experts are available for training in the specific technique, after which the participants should be able to use the equipment as independently as possible with free time allocation (except in jacquard weaving - see below).
The 3 people are provided with a shared apartment in the immediate vicinity of the Textile Centre Haslach, in which each has their own small room. The exchange among each other and the mutual inspiration should be an essential part of the stay in Haslach.
At the end of the stay there will be a small presentation of the results. In addition, each participant undertakes to create an article/photo series/video about their own work in Haslach in English, which will be published on the ETN website and on the website of the Textile Centre Haslach.
General requirement for an application is a valid membership in the ETN!

This machine has a weaving width of 165 cm and weaves 3 repeats, 55 cm each, next to each other. It is fitted with a Tencel warp in off-white Nm 100/2 with 48 threads per cm. The CAD system with the ARAHNE program can be operated independently after a short training, the weaving on the industrial jacquard power loom is done by arrangement with an employee of the Textile Centre Haslach. The TC1 looms are operated independently.
◾ Prerequisite: in-depth knowledge of binding theory, experience in working independently with CAD programs (ARAHNE or other similar programs).
Costs (all prices net):

◾ Accommodation: €15 / night: €225 for 15 nights
◾ Material costs are charged at €60 or €19.80 per running meter, depending on the weft density. (There is a good selection of yarns available on site. You may also bring your own yarns, but pls. note that the rapier system and speed of the power loom may limit the use of yarn types.)
The costs borne by the participants only cover part of the necessary funds, the rest is funded by the Textile Centre Haslach. Participants are encouraged to apply independently for a grant in their respective country. Travel and subsistence costs are not included in the stated prices.
